About the School's Namesake

VB Chamberlain

 

 

 

Valentine B. Chamberlain
(1833-1893)

Born in Litchfield County, Judge V.B. Chamberlain followed his family's move to New Britain after graduating college in 1857. He became a lawyer and also worked in journalism. Upon the outbreak of the Civil War, he served in the Seventh Regiment of the Connecticut Volunteers and rose to the rank of Captain. In the assault on Fort Wagner in 1863, Chamberlain was captured and was imprisoned for the remaining year and a half of the war.

Upon his return to New Britain, he served as a Judge, a member of the Legislature, and served as the State Treasurer.

He was a prominent member of the New Britain Board of Education from 1881 to the time of his death in 1893.

Newly Renovated. Construction Started in 2021 and after 24 Months, the building was Commissioned and occupied on September 5, 2023.
